How to choose a professional cuticle nail scissors? What to look for when buying?

Before you buy nail scissors , they must be removed from the package and checked. All professional manicure tools have packaging that makes it easy to do, unlike manufacturers of “consumer goods”, which “tightly” seal the packaging and close access to the tool. The professionalism of the cuticle scissors also indicates the presence of high-quality protective cap, made of silicone.

First of all, we will try to independently determine the hardness of steel cuticle scissors. It is unlikely that you will have with you a special device for this. Therefore, we take scissors in hand and slightly bend at a break in the area of ​​the screw. If the scissors are easily bent – they do not suit us, as the steel is soft (less than 35 HRC).

Next, inspect the cuticle shears, they should be narrow, the minimum thickness and sharp.

Narrow scissors with a minimum thickness (the thinner the better) make it easy to cut the cuticle as evenly as possible and closer to the nail shaft. Thickness 0.15- 0.25 mm will be optimal.

“Sharp, but not needles” – this is the main rule for the tips of the cuticle scissors. Such tips are convenient to “crawl” under the cuticle and do not injure the client. For this, in the company LAZETI, we specially dull them to a radius of 0.1-0.2 mm.

The next stage is to check the “stroke”, that is, we look at how the two scissors webs converge from the point of contact to the tip.

For good cuticle scissors, the “stroke” starts at 1/3 of the distance from the tip, for EXCELLENT, like LAZETI, at 2/3. This can only be achieved by highly skilled craftsmen. From the correct setting of the “stroke” will depend on the service life of nail scissors.

To check the “stroke”, we take the cuticle scissors into the hand and slowly begin to close them, listening to the sensations in the hand.

“Smoothly and with even effort” is the motto for this stage.

First you have to feel the place where the “stroke” begins, then the even effort until it closes (ideally, if it will increase slightly towards the end, like with LAZETI scissors).

Should not be the following:

  • – failures (you feel the effort, then no);
  • – the effect of “rattle” (as if two small saws rub against each other);
  • – click tips at the end of the closure (not to be confused with the contact rings of the handles);
  • – excessive effort in the process of mixing (some sharpeners, trying to simplify and speed up the process of setting up the “stroke”, strongly bend the shears, and it is really difficult to reduce them);
  • – easy information, when you practically do not feel any effort when closing scissors;

And finally, the final stage – checking the “cut”. For this stage, you will need a thin order of 60 microns of polyethylene film (from the improvised means the “T-shirt” package is suitable). The film should be put on the edge of the table and allowed to hang freely, then proceed to check the “cut”. It is necessary to open the shears, then bring them to the film, as shown in the photo, and cut the film with the upper part of the scissors (depending on the “stroke” setting – this is usually 1/3 from the tip of the scissors).
